Styling Tips: Coffee Tables

In many instances, a coffee table can end up being the center of the room. As the star of the show, it deserves to be pretty to look at. So I thought I'd share my go to tips for making the most of styling a coffee table.

Shape: First thing is first, the shape of your coffee table will dictate the styling arrangement. A round coffee table looks best with round pieces or decorative elements that are organized in a circular manner. Whereas a rectangular table needs elongated elements or pieces placed in coordinating quadrants. Finding a tray that coordinates with the shape of your coffee table is a great way to keep things organized and neat.

Books: Books on a coffee table serve several different purposes. They're not only cover art. They should reflect your personality. Pick coffee table books that not only coordinate with your color scheme, but also speak to your interests and tell your story. Where have you traveled to? What are your hobbies? Who’s your inspiration? Let them be a conversation starter during your next cocktail hour. I don't recommend stacking more than two or three books. You can even have one open.

Levels: Books lead me to the next element to consider which is having different levels on a coffee table to add interest. Use them as a pedestal to add some height on the table. Pairing taller items with smaller pieces will provide an overall balance to your arrangement. Add a vase, sculpture, flowers, or incense sticks to balance smaller items like a candle or box.

Functional: Obviously we want our coffee table to look pretty. However, it also needs to function for our daily lives. Think of how you use the table or room that it’s in. Do you need a box to store remotes? Or coasters to set down drinks? Using items with a purpose helps to avoid clutter.

Change it up: - Seasons change and so does what you're into at the moment (thanks tiktok). Be open to swapping out the books for albums, or the flowers for branches. The options are endless!

In the end, just have fun with it! Now I've inspired myself to rearrange my own tables..
