Setting a Thanksgiving Table That Tells Your Story

With Thanksgiving this week, many of us are thinking about the people we’ll gather with—and the spaces we’ll gather in. If you're hosting this year, you may be stressing about getting the house cleaned up, let alone how to set the table.

A festively styled table doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive; it just needs to feel warm, welcoming, and like you. Here are a few designer-approved ideas to help you create a table that’s layered, personal, and effortlessly elegant.

Start with What You Love

Before buying anything new, look at what you already own. An heirloom bowl, vintage serving piece, or your everyday stoneware can all become part of a thoughtful tablescape. Mixing pieces with personal history gives your table warmth that brand-new items simply can’t replicate.

Blend High + Low for an Elevated Look

Some of the best tablescapes come from mixing materials, styles, and price points. Thrifted candlesticks, flea-market glassware, or grandma's mismatched silver can add charm and character. Pair them with a fresh linen runner or modern flatware to keep the overall look polished and intentional.

Add Natural, Seasonal Elements

Look at your own backyard - simple greenery, a bundle of herbs, branches from your trees, or a cluster of pears or pumpkins. These elements add texture and color without overwhelming the space—and they make the table feel organic and inviting. Leave room for the good stuff - A well-designed table supports the conversation, not the other way around.

Play with Layers

Stacked plates, linen napkins, textured chargers, and a mix of candle heights help create depth. If you’re feeling creative, add a handwritten place card or a sprig of rosemary at each setting for a thoughtful finishing touch.

As we kick off the holidays, we’re feeling especially grateful for the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people this year. Helping you share the beautiful spaces we created with your loved ones is truly one of the best parts of what we do.
